  • Vipers 0-1 Al Hilal Omdurman

Waleed Bakhiet lone strike condemned Vipers to a first leg defeat in the preliminary round of the Caf Champions League at St. Mary’s stadium, Kitende.

The visitors dominated proceedings in the first half and could have scored more but Vipers were fortunate.

The Venoms first attempt on goal came in the 41st minute courtesy of a shot from outside the area from Karim Watambala.

In the second half, Fred Kajoba made changes with David Bagoole, Paul Mucureezi and Dan Sserunkuma coming on to join Ibrahim Oriti who had replaced Milton Karisa with a minute to half time whistle.

The Ugandan champions created chances but Sserunkuma and Oriti were guilty for fluffing them while at the other end, Burundian Fabien Mutombora had to be at his best to deny Al Hilal the second with a fingertip save in the closing stages of the game.

The Ugandan champions will hope for a better show in the second leg in a week’s time in Omdurman if they are to progress to the next round.
