The Azam Uganda Premier League secretariat has joined the Save Onyebuchi campaign by offering Ugx. 2 million towards the cause. The Express FC defender suffered a career ending injury in a premiership game against Proline on May 9 at Mutesa II stadium, Wankulukuku and has since received treatment from Mengo Hospital and later Lisa Medical Centre.

However, the experts at Mengo advised that he be transferred to the Comprehensive Rehabilitation in Uganda (CORSU) in Kisubi along Entebbe road for plastic surgery worth more than Ugx. 20 million.

His club chairperson Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi said the Red Eagles have played their part but with the player still down, the fans initiated a drive to fundraise so as to get him treated, a move UPL supported by donating.

“The UPL today has made a modest contribution to Vincent Onyebuchi who broke his leg while playing in the league for Express FC against Proline FC,” confirmed Hamza Jjunju, one of the key fans behind the drive.

League CEO Bernard Bainamani said they couldn’t sit back and let the player suffer thus making what he described as a simple contribution.

When we got the information that the player is in this state of need, we had to move in and make a simple contribution of Ugx. 2 million.

Onyebuchi, whose career is done according to doctors will undergo 8-9 surgeries.
