Overview:

This follows the draw held in Nairobi, Kenya, on Wednesday, January 15. The tournament, initially scheduled for February 1-28, 2025, was postponed to August 2025. It will be hosted jointly by Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania.

CHAN Groups

Group A: Kenya, Morocco, Angola, DR Congo, Zambia

Group B: Tanzania, Madagascar, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic 

Group C: Uganda, Niger, Guinea, Q2, Q1,

Group D: Senegal, Congo, Sudan, Nigeria

Uganda Cranes will face Niger, Guinea, and two yet-to-be-determined qualifiers (Q1 and Q2) in the 2024 TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN), which kicks off in August 2025.

While two of Uganda’s Group C opponents are confirmed, the remaining spots – Q1 and Q2 – will be filled after qualifiers featuring Algeria, South Africa, Comoros, Egypt, The Gambia, and Gabon.

Kenya, one of the co-hosts, landed in a challenging ‘group of death,’ Pool A, alongside two-time respective champions Morocco and DR Congo. Angola, and Zambia complete the group.

Meanwhile, Tanzania was drawn into Group B, which includes Madagascar, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, and the Central African Republic. Defending champions Senegal will compete in Group D alongside Congo, Sudan, and Nigeria.

The draw ceremony was graced by East African football legends, including Uganda’s Hassan Wasswa, Tanzania’s Mrisho Ngasa, and Kenya’s McDonald Mariga, who added star quality to the event.

The CHAN tournament exclusively features players who ply their trade in domestic leagues, providing a platform to showcase homegrown talent and the strength of local football systems.
