The FUFA Super 8 tournament, a precursor for the 2024/25 season is on with two double headers on Friday and Saturday this week.
St. Mary’s stadium, Kitende will host the opening matches with holders BUL taking on Maroons in the early kick off before the day is crowned with a Vipers vs NEC tie.
BUL will hope to defend their crown they won after overcoming URA last time out but must be wary of the threat posed by stubborn Maroons.
For the late game, Nikola Kavazovic will get the first competitive test since assuming the head coach role at Vipers.
On Saturday, action will shift to MTN Omondi stadium, Lugogo where host team KCCA battles Kitara in the first game of the day at 5pm.
Kitara beat the Kasasiro home and away last campaign and will hope to be third time lucky.
The fixture against the 13-time league champions will also give them a real test of their readiness for the Caf Confederation Cup where Libya’s Al Hilal Benghazi is lurking.
The late kick off of the first round of matches will see reigning league champions SC Villa take on a Uganda Cranes select, a side combining of the best of the league players and free agents whose teams didn’t make the top 7.
Like Kitara, the game will test Villa’s readiness for the Caf Champions League.
It will also be the first time in a competitive match that interim head coach Morley Byekwaso is in charge.
Besides aiming for the trophy, all coaches will have an opportunity to test their new signings ahead of the highly anticipated competitive 2024/25 season.
