KCCA FC finally snapped their five-match winless run in emphatic fashion, crushing bottom-placed Mbale Heroes 5-0 at the MTN Omondi Stadium on Saturday.

The hosts also added a touch of class by honouring former Vipers SC player, Nigerian Abubakar Lawal, who passed away last month. Before kick-off, the team posed behind his shirt in tribute.

Arafat Usama opened the scoring in the 21st minute after an assist from Saidi Mayanja, setting the tone for KCCA’s dominance.

Five minutes later, Shafik Nana Kwikiriza doubled the lead as the hosts piled relentless pressure on their struggling opponents. Sadat Anaku made it 3-0 just before halftime, effectively sealing the contest before the break.

In the second half, Yian Gatbel extended the lead to 4-0 in the 75th minute, courtesy of another contribution from Kwikiriza.

A minute later, Sharif Ssengendo rounded off the scoring to complete KCCA’s most comprehensive victory of the season.

The triumph was KCCA’s seventh win of the campaign after 19 matches, moving them up to sixth place on 28 points – though they remain a distant 18 points behind table leaders Vipers SC.

For Mbale Heroes, the defeat further deepens their woes, as they remain rooted to the bottom of the 16-team log with just 10 points.

They now trail 13th-placed Police by 10 points, making their survival hopes increasingly slim.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Mbarara City and Soltilo Bright Stars played out a goalless draw at Kakyeka Stadium. The result leaves Bright Stars second from bottom on 12 points, still nine adrift of safety.

On Friday, URA edged UPDF 2-1 at Nakivubo Stadium thanks to goals from Moses Aliro and Abraham Tusubira, with Rashid Faridi scoring UPDF’s consolation.

The victory propelled URA to fourth place on 30 points, while UPDF, now with seven defeats this season, remained ninth on 24.

Meanwhile, title-chasing NEC missed an opportunity to close the gap on Vipers SC after being held to a 0-0 draw away to Wakiso Giants.

NEC now trail the leaders by five points, while Wakiso remain third from bottom with 14 points.
