Confidence is high at Lugogo with some players sounding assured of defending the Azam Uganda Premier League (UPL) title.
Manager Mike Mutebi’s club, who read their 2015/2016 financial report at a cocktail breakfast on Friday, open their title defence against JMC Hippos on August 19.
And his charges are raring to go. “The blend of youth and experience in the team will make us hard to beat next season,” striker Paul Mucureezi is quoted on the club website.
In in his early 20s, Mucureezi acknowledges the stiff competition he will face from new senior players like Vincent Kayizzi, and is looking forward to the challenge.
“I’m not under any pressure because I know for someone to dislodge me he has to work extremely hard,” he said, “My ability to play on the wings and in the central midfield gives me an added advantage.”
Mucureezi, who missed the last crucial games last season due to a back problem, looks to have gone over his problems. “I don’t feel any pain now and I’m enjoying training.”
Defender Lawrence Kasadha is another player looking to lift up his game in the upcoming season.
“I didn’t give my whole last season because of injuries,” said the defender, “I have now overcome them and I want to cement my position in the team and guide it to another league title.”
