Azam Uganda Premier League (AUPL) champions KCCA have promised to continue with upgrade of the Phillip Omondi stadium in 2017.The stadium was re-opened at the start of the 2016/17 after installation of the astro turf but still has a lot to do with especially with the stands and VIP section with the latter seemingly nonexistent.
A lot has been said and club chairman, Julius Kabugo says the works will continue this year.
“Last week we asked the procurement department of KCCA to start advertising, we shall need quality surveyors and architects to come up with a proper plan and budget for construction to start,” Kabugo told Daily Monitor.
The flamboyant chairman, known for more action than words added that among the new board’s target is ensuring the club gets a decent home of their own.
As a board we have goals and targets, one of those is to make sure KCCA FC have a home of their own very soon.
In the first round, games involving giants and rivals SC Villa and Express filled the Phillip Omondi beyond capacity and Kabugo says the two opened the eyes of the club’s management.
The games against Villa and Express were eye openers; people came in big numbers, and now are at that stage where our brand is growing and so is the following. We believe that that’s a challenge we can solve by improving our sitting capacity.
KCCA FC’s next home game in the league will feature another side with quite a number of fans in Onduparaka on the resumption of the league.
