Poloto strike lifts KCCA

Saturday result

KCCA 1-0 Soana

KCCA are back into second place on the Azam Uganda Premier League (AUPL) table following a narrow 1-0 victory over Soana at Lugogo on Saturday.

Returning Julius Poloto scored the winning goal at StarTimes Stadium, Lugogo as KCCA closed the gap on leaders SC Villa to one. Villa top on 37 points.

The champions came into the game on the back of a frustrating goalless draw at Masavu and needed to win this to keep closest to the leaders, who could only draw 1-1 with Bright Stars.

Manager Mike Mutebi named both Poloto and Muzamiru Mutyaba in the starting XI after their return from injury but was later forced to withdraw Mutyaba for Lawrence Bukenya as Soana’s Steven Bengo threatened.

The Kasasiro Boys held on for all three points and will be pleased that they have played one game fewer than VIlla.

Defeat for Alex Isabirye’s Soana has them in 12th place on 21 points from 19 games.
