SC Villa finally grabbed the chance to go top of the Azam Uganda Premier League (AUPL) after beating The Saints 2-0 at Matugga.

Emmanuel Okwi and John Adriko were the heroes for the 16-time league champions netting in the 62nd and 72nd minutes respectively following a goalless first half.

On 44 points after 22 games, Wasswa Bbosa’s charges are now top with second placed KCCA adrift by three although they have played four games less.

The Saints, on 23 points are now fourth from bottom after 22 games.

At Wankulukuku, hosts Express won a seven goal thriller against Police to ensure their two fixtures in the season amassed 13 goals in total.

Allan Kyambadde and Michael Birungi hit a brace for Express and Police respectively in an entertaining tie watched by a sizeable crowd.

Mahad Kakooza and Simon Sserunkuma scored the other goals for the Red Eagles who now move to 6th on the 16-team log with 30 points after 20 games while Hood Kaweesa scored Cops’ third as they attempted to rally from a 4-1 score line.

Abdallah Mubiru’s side, winless in the four successive games now since winning three in a row drop a place to 11th with 24 points.

Elsewhere, Robert Achema maintained his goal scoring form with a double to give Bul an important 2-0 win over Bright Stars at Kakindu.

The former SC Villa attacking midfielder, scorer of the winner against Police last week put the hosts in the lead six minutes after the break and made the points safe with a second with 17 minutes to time.

Bul’s win lifts the team from the relegation zone for the first time in a couple of months as they now go 12th with 23 points.

Elsewhere, Soana drew 1-1 with JMC Hippos thanks to an equaliser by Paddy Muhumuza after Abdurrahman Ajab had given the visitors a lead inside eleven minutes.

At Namboole, 10-man Sadolin Paints earned a point against Lweza in a goalless stalemate.

Ronald Lukungu was sent off in the 36th minute but the visitors.

Lweza drops to the Red Zone after yet another disappointing outing on the day with 23 points while The Painters are 10th with 24 points.

The league takes a two week international break until Tuesday March 28.
