Vipers SC 5-0 Express
Daniel Sserunkuma plundered a hat-trick as Vipers pounded Express 5-0 to go into the final day on Friday needing maximum points to win their first league title in three years.
Geoffrey Waiswa and Duncan Sseninde added the icing on the cake as coach Miguel da Costa’s men maintained their two-point advantage over KCCA.
Vipers top the table on 62 points, with their final match at home to UPDF on Friday and KCCA away to Police.
Unsurprisingly, Express started nervously. It was not a question of if but when the floodgates would open.
And when they did, Vipers centre-back Geoffrey Wasswa made a solo run from the centre, darting past three defenders and comfortably sending the ball past Express goalkeeper Godwin Buule for a 41st minute lead.
Less than than a minute later Sserunkuma was brought down in the box and made it 2-0 from the resultant penalty for his 14th goal of the season.
Sserunkuuma got his second against his former side on 48 minutes with a clean finish.
The striker completed his hat-trick when he rounded Buule to slot in an open net on 57 minutes.
That goal saw him move to 16, one more than hitherto lead scorer Nelson Senkatuka of Bright Stars.
By the time Sseninde scored to seal the 5-0 win, the gulf in class between the two sides had been made clear.
“We are going to fight for the remaining three points and win the title,” assured Vipers coach Miguel Da Costa.
