Express and SC Villa were the biggest winners over the weekend as they capitalised on KCCA sharing spoils with Vipers.

It all started on Friday afternoon at Nakivubo Stadium where the match of the weekend saw no goals.

KCCA began brightly but faded as the match went on with key player Jackson Nunda kept under close scrutiny by Siraje Sentamu.

Not many chances were created in the first half although Duncan Seninde should have scored after being played through on goal by Mike Mutyaba.

Instead of shooting at goal, he opted for a cutback that was cleared by Sakka Mpiima.

After the break, Nunda got the game’s first chance but after almost beating everyone, skipper Nicholas Wadada cleared the lines.

Pius Wanji, who had come on for Mutyaba, twice tested goalie Benjamin Ochan but without success.

The best chance of the entire game fell to William Wadri in the last minute of regulation time.

The ex-KCCA winger cum forward beat the KCCA backline for pace and raced towards goal, but with only Ochan to beat, his effort went wide to the relief of the home fans.

It was the last piece of action as KCCA maintained top spot with 52 points, still six ahead of Vipers who are yet to play two games.

On Saturday, SC Villa won 2-1 at Kakindu against Bul to keep faint title hopes alive. Denis Kamanzi and Umar Kasumba scored for the visitors who are now on 36 points but still have six games in hand over leaders.

The Jogoos are 10th on the 16 team standings.

At Wankulukuku, Express jumped to second on the log after a slim 2-1 win over Bright Stars thanks to strikes by Ibrahim Kayiwa and Tony Odur.

The Red Eagles are on 48 points, four behind leaders with a game in hand.

Elsewhere, The Saints moved closer to survival with a 2-1 win over visitors JMC Hippos at Namboole.

Ivan Kiweewa and Alex Kitatta scored for the hosts before Ajab Abdurrahman scored the visitors consolation.

Moses Basena’s side now comfortably sits 13th with 30 points, five points above the drop zone with a game less over army side Simba.
