Express 4-1 Mbarara City

Express produced their best performance of the season yet, thumping Mbarara City 4-1 at the refurbished Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, to climb into the top four as Matchday Six got underway on Wednesday.

The Red Eagles were in ruthless form from the start, racing into a 3-0 lead before halftime.

Rashid Kawawa opened the scoring in the 11th minute after his effort deflected off a defender, before Richard Basangwa doubled the advantage with a towering header from Kawawa’s cross near the half hour.

Ssenonga Kagawa made it three just before the break, turning in Henry Wamala’s assist to put the game firmly beyond the visitors.

Kagawa then added his second of the evening in the 67th minute, slotting home to make it 4-0.

Mbarara City managed a consolation through substitute Gabriel Eragu in the 71st minute, but by then the damage had long been done.

The result marked only Express’ second win of the campaign, lifting them five places up to fourth on eight points, while Mbarara remained rooted in the bottom two with just two points.

Meanwhile, in Luzira, URA and Maroons played out a goalless draw — the Tax Collectors’ fifth stalemate of the season.

URA are two places below Express, with Maroons a further five down on as many points.

Matchday Six continues on Thursday, with UPDF hosting Police in Bombo in the forces’ derby, while SC Villa welcome high-flying Kitara to Kadiba.
