Friday results
BUL 0-1 SC Villa
Vipers SC 0-1 KCCA
StarTimes Uganda Premier League leaders, Kitara, did not kick a ball on Friday but were the day’s biggest winners as KCCA and 10-man SC Villa stopped Vipers SC and BUL respectively.
A late Mustafa Kizza penalty completed KCCA’s double over Vipers with a 1-0 victory at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende while David Owori’s first half goal was enough for Villa, who had Gavin Kizito sent off after half time, to pip BUL by the same scoreline in Njeru.
KCCA’s ninth win in 20 matches moved the Kasasiro Boys two places up to eighth on 29 points, while Villa’s 10th victory in 19 games moved them a place up to fourth on 36.
On their part, Vipers fourth defeat in 19 games saw them drop a place to fifth on 35 points, while BUL stayed second on 39.
The repercussions of the above results are that both BUL and Vipers ceded more advantage to leaders Kitara by failing to pick points in their respective matches.
A BUL victory would have brought the Eastern side to within a point of leaders Kitara, who are on 43, both having played 21 games apiece, while a Vipers win would have returned them to third on 38 points.
But because they achieved none of the above, Kitara maintained their four-point lead at the summit as BUL exhausted their game in hand.
Vipers, who had three matches in hand coming into their fixture against KCCA, have also reduced that by one but without claiming any positives on the table.
At the Fufa technical Centre in Njeru, Owori put away Ronald Ssekiganda’s pass for Villa’s 40th minute 1-0 lead following a beautiful passing move by the Jogoos.
BUL then got an opportunity to level matters from the spot after Villa were reduced to 10 men following a straight red card to Gavin Kizito for a deliberate handball on the goalline.
Ibrahim Kazindula stepped forward to take it on 61 minutes but eventual Pilsner Man of the Match, Jeans Braddy Wokorach, saved it to claim all three points for Villa.
At St Mary’s Kitende, dominant KCCA needed a penalty in injury time by second half substitute, Kizza, to claim their first ever win at St Mary’s after Ashraf Mugume’s shot was handled in the area.
