Vipers maintain summit grip with decisive Police win

Vipers SC 4–1 Police

Vipers SC continued their strong league form with a convincing 4–1 win over Police at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, on Tuesday, consolidating their place at the summit.

The hosts began assertively, pressing high and forcing early turnovers. Brian Obedi and Enock Ssebagala both tested the Police defence in the opening exchanges, signalling Vipers’ intent.

The breakthrough arrived in the 32nd minute when captain Milton Karisa applied a composed finish after being picked out by the lively Karim Watambala. 

Vipers tightened their grip late in the half, with Watambala doubling the advantage through a thunderous strike that dipped in off the crossbar.

On the stroke of halftime, Odili Chukwuma added a third, rising highest to head home from close range and effectively putting the contest beyond reach.

Police showed brief resistance after the restart, pulling one back through Saidi Kyeyune, whose low effort found its way through a crowded penalty area. 

Any hopes of a comeback were extinguished midway through the second half.

Man of the Match Usama Arafat restored Vipers’ three-goal cushion in the 77th minute, powering in a header after meeting Yunus Sentamu’s accurate delivery from the flank.

The victory keeps Vipers top of the table on 33 points from 13 matches. Police, despite the defeat, remain third with 27 points after 14 outings.
