UPL Wednesday results

Kitara 0-0 Calvary

Lugazi 0-1 SC Villa.

SC Villa stayed in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League title race with a narrow 1-0 victory over Lugazi, while Kitara were held to a goalless draw by Calvary on Wednesday.

At Royal Park in Butema, Kitara failed to find a breakthrough against a resolute Calvary side, dropping crucial points in their pursuit of a first league title.

The Hoima-based side have now picked up just two points from their last three matches.

The result leaves Kitara fourth on 48 points, level with Villa, who move into third place on a superior head-to-head record.

Leaders Vipers remain seven points clear, while KCCA sit second on 51 points with six matches to play.

Villa’s win in Lugazi was hard-earned, with the Jogoos collecting seven points from their last three matches – the strongest return among the top four sides.

Frank Ssebuufu scored the decisive goal early on, reacting quickest to a loose ball to lob Lugazi goalkeeper Allan Igama in the third minute.

It was his ninth league goal since returning to domestic football.

At the bottom, Calvary will take encouragement from the result, extending their unbeaten run to three matches.

They remain 16th on 10 points, seven behind 13th-placed Mbarara City.
