Thursday UPL Result

Kitara 2-0 SC Villa

Kitara boosted their standing in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League title race with a composed 2-0 victory over SC Villa at Butema Ground in Hoima on Thursday.

The result moved the Royals to 54 points, reducing the gap to leaders Vipers to five with four matches remaining.

Villa slipped to fourth and eight points off the top, leaving their title hopes dented.

Patrick Kaddu and Yunus Sibira scored for the hosts, who recovered from early pressure to take control of the contest.

Villa started brightly, with Patrick Kakande influential in the opening exchanges, but Kitara grew into the game and found the breakthrough in the 28th minute through a high press.

Misi Ssemugera was dispossessed in midfield by Sibira, who quickly released Kaddu.

The forward’s right-footed effort took a slight deflection before looping over goalkeeper David Lukwago to give Kitara the lead.

Kaddu’s goal took his tally to nine league strikes this season, underlining his importance in Kitara’s attacking setup.

The hosts doubled their advantage in first-half added time as Villa pushed forward in search of an equaliser.

Jimmy Kalema drove forward before finding Sibira, who rounded  the on-rushing Lukwago in Villa’s goal.

Kitara managed the second half with discipline, limiting Villa’s chances while maintaining control of possession.

Head coach Wasswa Bbosa made several changes as the match progressed, with an eye on the upcoming Uganda Cup semi-final first leg against Vipers.

The victory keeps Kitara firmly in contention as the season enters its final stretch, while Villa face an uphill task to re-enter the title race.
