KCCA – UPDF (Match aborted after a power issue)
SC Villa kept the pressure on leaders BUL with a 2-0 victory over Mbarara City at Mutesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku, on Thursday.
The day also saw Entebbe UPPC claim a narrow 1-0 away win over Kigezi Homeboyz and KCCA’s late fixture at home to UPDF end prematurely due to a power outage.
The Jogoos moved to 17 points from seven matches, remaining second behind BUL, who have 19 points after beating NEC 2-1 the previous day.
Ssebufu, Yiga deliver for Villa
Frank Ssebufu opened the scoring in the 11th minute, reacting quickest after Aslam Ssemakula’s long-range effort was parried by Mbarara goalkeeper Bashir Ssekagya and the ball rebounded off the post. Ssebufu was left unmarked to head home.
Substitute Najib Yiga sealed the points in the 84th minute as Villa extended their unbeaten league run to seven matches.
The result took their tally to five wins and two draws, while Mbarara remained 14th on five points. Villa’s Raymond Barasa Mangoli was named man of the match.
Kokolo settles UPPC contest
At Rwamwanja Stadium in Kamwenge, Entebbe UPPC defeated Kigezi Homeboyz 1-0, with Reich Triomphe Kokolo scoring in the 43rd minute.
The visitors collected their fourth win of the campaign to move to 14 points, level with third-placed NEC but behind on goal difference.
Kigezi, meanwhile, remained bottom with one point from six matches after suffering a fifth defeat. Osman Mayanja of Kigezi was named man of the match.
Power outage halts KCCA, UPDF
KCCA’s meeting with UPDF at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, was abandoned following a floodlight failure, with the score at 0-0.
The match was interrupted just over five minutes into play when the lights went off.
After a delay of about 25 minutes, a meeting involving the referees, club chief executive officers and captains resulted in the decision to abandon the game until further notice.
In a statement, KCCA apologised to supporters, UPDF and others affected by the disruption, saying it was treating the incident seriously and would work with relevant stakeholders to establish the circumstances.
The club said it was awaiting further communication from the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) on the match and any subsequent decisions.
KCCA remained fifth on 11 points, while UPDF stayed eighth with nine points, as the league’s seventh matchday continued into Friday’s fixture between Vipers SC and Police.
