Mbarara City 1-2 KCCA
KCCA beat Mbarara City 2-1 at Rwamanja Stadium in Kamwenge on Friday to reclaim first place on the StarTimes Uganda Premier League table, edging ahead of rivals SC Villa by a point.
The visitors – boosted by the return of co-head coach Brian Ssenyondo from U-17 World Cup duty, alongside youngsters Brain Jjara and Steven Oyirowth, who made the bench – got off to a bright start.
Herbert Achayi, also back from national team commitments, rose highest in the 16th minute to head in Joel Sserunjogi’s well-weighted corner for a 1–0 lead.
Mbarara City, who entered the match second from bottom with just one win all season, hit back in the 26th minute when Muhammad Kanyike received a ball from Gaddafi Kacancu and bamboozled his marker to slot past Charles Lukwago.
Five minutes into the second half, KCCA restored control. Achayi turned provider, swinging in a precise cross that Ivan Ahimbisibwe guided home to make it 2–1.
The Kasasiro, now on 17 points, move one clear of SC Villa, while Mbarara remain in early-season trouble after failing to capitalise on last season’s boardroom victory in this corresponding fixture.
Villa could return to the summit if they win the big clash against unbeaten defending champions Vipers SC in Kitende on Saturday. Maroons at home to NEC is the day’s other fixture.
