Uganda Cranes will hope to start the qualification campaign for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on a high when they face South Africa in Johannesburg on Friday.

Paul Put who has eight UPL stars at his disposal is aware that a good start will move a long way in ending the two-year absence from the continental showpiece.

With Cranes’ opponents Congo beating South Sudan 1-0 on Thursday, Uganda can’t afford a false start away to the Bafana Bafana who finished third at the previous tournament in Ivory Coast.

The Kitara duo of Jude Ssemugabi and Denis Omedi as well as Libya based striker Muhammad Shaban will be vital in looking for the desired goals.

Halid Lwaliwa and Kenneth Ssemakula miss out through visa issues while the hosts miss Captain Ronwen Williams and tricky winger Percy Tau.

This will be the first competitive meeting between the two nations since 2005.

Uganda Cranes Probable XI: Watenga (GK), Bwomono, Mugabi, Capradossi,  Muleme, Aucho ©, Sserujongi, Bobosi, Mutyaba, Mato, Shaban, Ochaya
