Pius Wangi also helped himself to a brace – including a brilliant solo effort for the fifth, with Sadat Nsubuga and Benson Muhindo getting the other goals.
This was Mbarara’s sixth StarTimes Uganda Premier League win of the campaign, lifting them one place up to ninth on 27 points, 13 off the top and 11 above the drop.
On their part, Gaddaf’s massive 12th defeat of the campaign has the Jinja side a place above relegation in 13th on 18 points.
The hosts went ahead inside the first minute when Nsubuga finished off Yunusu Sibira’s good work. Gaddafi, thereafter, held firm to go into the half time break only one down.
However, they had no such resolve after the break, Akandwanaho doubling Mbarara’s advantage just two minutes after restart.
Goal scorer then turned provider, setting up Wangi’s first 10 minutes later.
Akandwanaho wasn’t done yet, the forward laying it on for Muhindo to make it 4-0 after 79 minutes.
The stage was then set for Wangi to complete his brace before a fervent home crowd in style, the Mbarara player embarking on a solo resolve to make it 5-0 nine minutes from full time.
