UPDF 1-2 KCCA

Mbale Heroes 1-3 Lugazi

Express 1-2 Police

It was a day for the visitors as all three away teams – KCCA, Lugazi, and Police – claimed victories in Thursday’s StarTimes Uganda Premier League fixtures.

Ten-man KCCA edged UPDF 2-1 in Bombo, while Lugazi secured a commanding 3-1 win at bottom-placed Mbale Heroes. Police capped off the night with a 2-1 triumph over Express under the floodlights at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo.

After an inconsistent season, KCCA climbed two places to fourth with 31 points – still 15 behind leaders Vipers SC, who have a game in hand.

Usama Arafat put them ahead in the eighth minute before Sadat Anaku doubled the lead in the 70th. UPDF’s Andrew Kigozi pulled one back in the 81st minute, but it was too late to change the outcome.

KCCA, however, finished with 10 men after Joel Sserunjogi received his second yellow card just two minutes into the second half. UPDF remain three places above the relegation zone on 24 points.

In the east, Lugazi were in ruthless form, brushing aside Mbale Heroes 3-1. Sam Ssemugugu (3’), Hussein Ssenoga (35’), and Sharif Saaka (79’) were on target as the league newcomers secured their sixth win of the campaign.

Robert Eseru netted a consolation for Mbale Heroes, who remain bottom with just 10 points – 11 away from any potential safety.

Police wrapped up the day’s away-team dominance with a well-earned 2-1 win over Express. Man of the Match Denis Kalanzi orchestrated both goals, assisting James Brian Obedi’s opener in the 49th minute before combining with Obedi again to set up Reagan Male for the second in the 69th. Conrad Ssenjogera netted Express’ late consolation in the 88th minute.

Police’s opener was a beauty – Male finding Kalanzi at the edge of the box, who then teed up Obedi for a clinical finish into the bottom left corner. The trio combined again for the second goal, with Male tapping home from close range.

This was only Police’s fourth win of the season, moving them one place up and two above the relegation zone on to 23 points. Express remain seventh with 28 points. Matchday 20 continues on Friday with five more games lined up.
