All five StarTimes Uganda Premier League matches on Tuesday ended in narrow 1-0 score lines, with Soltilo Bright Stars suffering the harshest blow as their 12-year stay in top-flight football came to an end with defeat to UPDF.
Joseph Janjali struck the winner for UPDF just 50 seconds in, condemning Bright Stars to relegation. They join Mbale Heroes – who dropped on Matchday 26 – as the second team to be relegated.
The result, coupled with Mbarara City’s 1-0 win at Wakiso Giants, means Bright Stars remain second from bottom on 16 points and can no longer catch Mbarara, who climbed to 26 points in 13th place.
Peter Onzima scored Mbarara’s late winner eight minutes from time in a match where Marvin Oshaba missed a penalty for Wakiso. The Purple Sharks also finished with 10 men after Shaibu Mtita was sent off in the 32nd minute for dangerous play.
Wakiso, now third from bottom in the 16-team league with 20 points, will join Bright Stars and Mbale Heroes in relegation if Mbarara win their next game.
In the other matches, Ivan Mayanja netted for Maroons against Police, Bruno Bunyaga secured URA’s win over Lugazi, and Rashid Kawawa struck Express’ winner against Kitara.
