Lawrence Tezikya’s 83rd minute goal against Gaddafi was enough to return BUL to the top of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League table after SC Villa temporarily led it for most of matchday 28 on Saturday.

Villa were headed for big things when Jonah Patrick Kakande put the Jogoos ahead away to UPDF in Bombo but BUL later ensured the Jinja outfit would instead go into the penultimate game of the season in control with the winner over Gaddafi seven minutes left to play.

Not even Hakim Kiwanuka’s 87th minute second for Villa would change table standings in relation to BUL as the Jogoos ran away 2-0 winners in Bombo.

BUL’s 1-0 late victory over Gaddafi was the leaders’ 15th in 27 matches and has them top of the standings on 52 points, just one ahead of Kitara and Villa.

Defending champions, Vipers SC, could only settle for a goalless draw at NEC, leaving them two points behind the top and title matters out of their hands.

In Masindi, Kitara had to come from 2-0 down to beat Busoga United 3-2 and go second with just two matches left to play.

Kitara quickly found themselves 2-0 down against a Busoga side fighting for survival before a second half turnaround rescued the day for them.

Bashamu Mugwa stirred up early trouble for Kitara with the opener on 10 minutes before Emmanuel Ajo made it 2-0 moments later.

But Brian Aheebwa pulled one back for the home side on 24 minutes to give The Royals a building block for the second half.

Two more goals from Frank ‘Zaga’ Tumwesigye after the hour mark and Kabon Living in added time ensured Kitara picked all three points.

Shariph Kimbowa and Kenneth Kimera also scored for Wakiso Giants in the 2-0 win over Mbarara City while Saidi Kyeyune got URA’s winner in the Tax Collectors 1-0 victory over KCCA.

The league continues on Monday with Express hosting NEC and six other matches lined up for Tuesday. Season curtains fully come down on May 18.

BUL will be champions for the first time if they win their two remaining games.
