Wednesday results
Calvary 0-1 BUL
Kitara 2-1 UPDF
NEC 1-0 Lugazi
BUL began their new era under Alex Isabirye on a positive note, grinding out a 1-0 victory over Calvary in Yumbe, with Karim Ndugwa’s early strike proving decisive.
The forward struck in the ninth minute after being teed up by Reagan Kalyowa, a goal that ultimately lifted BUL five places up to ninth on 13 points, getting some respite from near the drop zone.
BUL had lost their previous five StarTimes Uganda Premier League matches heading into Wednesday’s action and had to turn to Isabirye for a third spell at the club to get back to winning ways.
Despite a spirited second-half effort, Calvary failed to find a way past BUL’s organised defence and remained rooted to the bottom of the table on three points.
In Hoima, Kitara responded well to their previous setback with a 2-1 victory over UPDF.
Jimmy Kalema opened the scoring in the 34th minute after a driving run from midfield before finishing into an empty net, before Crispas Asiki doubled the advantage five minutes later, capitalising on a loose punch from the UPDF goalkeeper.
UPDF gave themselves hope late on when Samuel Ssekamatte curled home a free kick in the 86th minute, but Kitara held firm to secure the points.
The win moved Kitara one place up to fifth on 22 points – five behind leaders Vipers SC, while UPDF slipped to 13th on 11 points.
The day’s action concluded with NEC edging Lugazi 1-0, a result that lifted the hosts two places up to eighth on 15 points.
Lugazi, meanwhile, are third from bottom on 10 points, deepening their relegation worries as the league table continues to tighten.
Action continues on Thursday with the big one, Express hosting record 17-time champions SC Villa at Nakivubo.
