Jerome Kiirya put BUL ahead with a thunderous strike on the stroke of half time but Brian Omirambe capitalised on calamitous goalkeeping to level matters for Maroons in the second half.
BUL and Maroons meet in the return leg on Wednesday, this time at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo, a day after NEC and Vipers have faced off at the same venue.
Elsewhere in the Super 8, action continues on Saturday with another double header at Omondi Stadium, where KCCA host Kitara and Uganda Cranes Select team face StarTimes Uganda Premier League champions, SC Villa.
