Bright Stars 1-0 Kitara
Express 1-0 SC Villa
Joseph Zziwa scored the winner as Express edged eternal rivals, SC Villa, 1-0 at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo on Friday.
The Red Eagles third win of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League season was secured 10 minutes to full-time in a game where both sides traded largely harmless punches until Nsubuga’s moment.
A short corner by Saidi Kyeyune was followed by quick passing, the midfielder whipping the return pass with the outside of his boot into Villa’s penalty area.
The visitors failed to clear their lines and Zziwa thumped home his monumental derby goal from inside the area to the delight of interim coach Badru Kaddu.
The win moves Express six places up to fourth on 12 points, one more then Villa, who had come into Friday’s clash on the back of a 5-0 thrashing of UPDF. Coach Morley Byekwaso’s Blues dropped two places to seventh.
In the day’s other match, another interim coach in Ian Mutenda led Soltilo Bright Stars to their first victory of the season when they beat struggling Kitara 1-0 in Kavumba.
Skipper Nelson Ssenkatuka scored the game’s only goal, making the most of Paskali Oketcho’s assist in the 33rd minute.
Bright Stars had failed to win a game in seven attempts, leading to the sacking of coach Joseph Mutyaba last week.
But they did on their eighth attempt, their only maximum points lifting them two places from the bottom of the table to 14th with only six points. Kitara are second from bottom on four points after eight matches.
