MTN Omondi stadium, Lugogo is the place to be for this Friday’s 2024/25 Uganda Premier League opener as giants KCCA and URA cross path.

The mouthwatering clash sees Abdallah Mubiru and Alex Isabirye re-unite with either targeting a positive start to the season.

Match Preview

After an unconvincing Fufa Super 8 campaign, where the Kasasiro won just once, they will hope for a positive start.

Last season, the 13-time champions made a worse start to the season and ended up finishing 5th with performance and results improving only after the appointment of Mubiru who replaced Portuguese Sergio Traguil.

Now in his first full season, the former Vipers and Police tactician knows what a bad start could mean to his season as the Kasasiro aim to end a five-year trophy drought at Lugogo.

KCCA also start life without last season top scorer Muhammad Shaban but in Derrick Nsibambi, they have signed an equally experienced centre forward who can ably fill the boots of the now Libyan based striker.

URA finished a distant 8th last season and after over a decade of underwhelming performances, Isabirye who guided the club to their last title wants a competitive campaign.

“I am not one who wants to participate but everywhere I coach, I want to compete for trophies and it will be the case,” he told the media. “We are rebuilding but we have to be competitive and we shall take each game as it comes with an aim of getting three points,” he added.

Team News

Usama Arafat is the only confirmed absentee from the hosts’ camp through an injury sustained in pre-season while nothing has been reported by the tax collectors which means they have a clean bill of health.
