KCCA reclaimed top of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League following a comprehensive 5-0 win over Maroons at the MTN Phillip Omondi Stadium in Lugogo on Thursday evening.
Ashraf Mugume, Abu Mayanja, Saidi Mayanja, Shafik Kwikiriza and Sadat Anaku scored for KCCA.
KCCA’s fifth win in seven matches lifts them back to the top of the standings on 17 points, one ahead of Vipers SC ahead of the duo’s clash on Matchday Eight in Kitende.
The statement win keeps KCCA the only unbeaten side seven games into the season, in which they are formidable both in offence and defence.
Coach Abdallah Mubiru’s side have scored 11 goals and conceded only one. Only Vipers (13), who have conceded six, have scored more than KCCA and third-placed NEC.
Mugume opened the scoring at Lugogo in the third minute with a low shot past Simon Tamale in Maroons goal following a poorly cleared corner.
Abu Mayanja got KCCA’s second goal two minutes before halftime following a sleek passing move, which ended with Bright Anukani releasing the former to finish the business.
Saidi Mayanja made it 3-0 when he capitalised on a weak clearance by Tamale, lifting the ball over the goalkeeper and past a couple of defenders to score from inside the KCCA’s half on the stroke of half time.
It was all over after the break when Kwikiriza pounced on a loose ball for the fourth goal on 66 minutes.
Substitute Anaku then added the icing on the cake as he marked the start of his second spell at KCCA with an 80th minute goal after being picked out by Usama Arafat following another swift team move.
This was Maroons third defeat in seven matches, and leaves the Luzira side a place above relegation on six points.
In the day’s other matches, Anwar Mustafa Ntege scored BUL’s lone goal in the 10th minute in the Jinja side’s 1-0 victory over Soltilo Bright Stars, while Wakiso Giants and Express could only play out a goalless draw.
BUL are fourth on 11 points, with Bright Stars bottom of the 16-team log on three after seven games.
Express are eighth on nine points, while Wakiso are four positions and a point below.
