Thursday results
KCCA 3-0 Maroons
Entebbe UPPC 2-0 UPDF
KCCA kept their slim StarTimes Uganda Premier League title hopes alive with a commanding 3-0 victory over Maroons at the MTN Omondi Stadium on Thursday.
The result moved KCCA to 55 points, four behind leaders and defending champions Vipers, who have a game in hand and face URA on Friday.
KCCA, however, have only three matches left to play. Third-placed Kitara, on 54 points, could also move above KCCA if they defeat NEC on Saturday.
After a cautious opening spell, KCCA broke the deadlock in the 45th minute when Ivan Ahimbisibwe headed Gavin Kizito’s long ball into the path of Ashraf Mugume, who nodded home.
Maroons threatened after the break, but goalkeeper Mugolofa Mutwalibi produced a vital save to deny Raymond Walugembe in the 68th minute.
Substitute Herbert Achayi doubled the lead in the 87th minute with a powerful long-range strike before Ahimbisibwe completed the win three minutes later, finishing from Mugume’s pass for his 13th league goal of the season.
Meanwhile, Entebbe UPPC defeated UPDF 2-0 at the Fisheries Training Institute playground in Bugonga to climb to sixth place on 46 points.
Issa Bugembe gave the hosts an early lead in the third minute before substitute Muhammed Kyeyune sealed victory with a low free-kick in the 88th minute.
The defeat left UPDF on 21 points after their 16th loss of the campaign, keeping them close to the relegation places.
