Kigezi HomeBoyz 2-1 Mbarara City

Kigezi Homeboyz finally got their season moving with a 2-1 victory over regional rivals Mbarara City in Friday’s StarTimes Uganda Premier League encounter at Rwamwanja Stadium, Kamwenge.

Joseph Jjemba put the hosts ahead in the 53rd minute before Mbarara City responded through Brian Aheebwa three minutes from time to threaten another frustrating afternoon for the Gorillas.

However, Mike Walaga struck in the second minute of added time to settle the contest and hand Kigezi the much needed victory.

The result ends Kigezi’s winless run in the top flight, having managed just one point from their opening eight matches before Friday’s encounter.

The three points lift the Kamwenge-based side to four points, level with Ntugasaze, while Mbarara City remain on eight points after suffering a fifth defeat in nine matches.

Jjemba was named Man of the Match for his contribution to Kigezi’s crucial victory.
