  • Martyrs of Benina stadium, Benghazi

Uganda’s Caf Confederation Cup representatives Kitara make their continental bow with a match against Libya’s Al Hilal Benghazi on Friday in the first leg of the preliminary round.

Brian Ssenyondo’s men host the first leg at the Martyrs of Benina stadium in Benghazi after they failed to secure Mandela National stadium, Namboole and St. Mary’s stadium, Kitende.

Kitara Captain Maxwell Owachigiu stated; “The team is in good shape. As you are aware, this is going to be our first continental game but with the training we have had in the past two weeks, we are versed with the tactics and will approach the game very well.

“Since we are the away team, we are going to work hard to get good results to take into the second leg.

“We have some experienced players that have played on the continent and as players, we are in good mood under no pressure and Super 8 as well as the international friendly molded us and we shall give everything.”

The opponents will hope new signing Muhammad Shaban gives them edge over Kitara after they signed the striker from KCCA which calls for alert from the backline led by Owachigiu, Ronald Otti, Benjamin Nyakoojo, Arthur Kiggundu and Jasper Aheebwa among others.

Meanwhile, forwards Denis Omedi and Jude Ssemugabi who have been lethal in the Fufa Super 8 are clinical over the two legs to ensure progress.

In case Kitara overcomes the Libyan side, Al Masry of Egypt awaits in the second preliminary round.
