Kitara continued their upward trajectory in the Startimes Uganda Premier League following a comprehensive 4-0 win away to Maroons at the Prisons Ground in Luzira on Thursday.
Forward Jude Ssemugabi scored a brace in the second successive game, while Fred Amaku and Ronald got the other goals.
Kitara’s fourth win in 12 matches moves them two places up to 11th position with 14 points, five above the relegation zone and 14 behind the top.
Maroons slow start was punished when Kitara scored twice in the opening 12 minutes.
Kira’s first came after a freekick was headed back across goal by defender Benjamin Nyakoojo and Amaku heading home on nine minutes.
The second goal arrived two minutes later when Otti was allowed yards of space to head in Kabon Livin’s in-swinging corner at the far post.
Maroons conceded the third before they could even regroup. Frank ‘Zaga’ Tumwesigye beat Maroons’ offside trap to set up Ssemugabi, who beat goalkeeper Simon Tamale on 30 minutes.
Kitara got their fourth when substitute Marvin Nyanzi released Ssemugabi, who rounded goalkeeper Tamale to score into an open net with the last kick of the game
The result ended Maroons’ resurgence that had seen them rise to sixth place with 16 points.
Elsewhere in Lugazi, the hosts played out a fifth consecutive stalemate following a 1-1 draw with Mbarara City.
Larif Sssnkubuge scored for Mbarara on 59 minutes before Ali Arshavin Bayo rescued a point for the hosts four minutes from full time.
The result leaves the Lugazi and Mbarara in 12th and 13th respectively.
