Kitara opened up a one-point lead at the StarTimes Uganda Premier League summit following a professional performance in the 1-0 victory over Wakiso Giants at Masindi Stadium on Tuesday.

Striker Denis Omedi was the match winner, his eighth minute strike for Kitara coming on the heels of another goal that downed KCCA in the match leading to this.

Omedi has now scored 10 league goals, just one fewer than the leading scorer in Soltilo Bright Stars’ Nelson Senkatuka.

Kitara’s 12th win in 19 matches has them top on 39 points, one more than second-placed BUL, and a massive 19 ahead of Wakiso Giants down in 12th.

At the Wankulukuku Stadium, Express turned on the heat, thrashing UPDF 3-1 to compound the soldiers relegation fears.

Joshua Musoke, Kevin Ssekimbega and Pilsner Man of the Match Isaac Wagoina, who was registering his 10th strike of the season, scored the Red Eagles goals.

The seven-time league winners, Express, have now displaced URA from the seventh place, where the Red Eagles lie on 29 points after 19 matches.

UPDF, who have only 10 points from 19 matches, remain in a desperate 15th position, essentially occupying the last place after Arua Hill were demoted.

Action continues on Wednesday, with NEC hosting the landlords, KCCA, at Lugogo.
