StarTimes Uganda Premier League – Friday results
KCCA 2–1 NEC
Kitara 2–0 Maroons
Saidi Mayanja scored twice as KCCA edged NEC 2–1 at the Phillip Omondi Stadium on Friday to move top of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.
In the day’s other match, Kitara maintained the chase on the leaders with a 2–0 victory over Maroons in Hoima.
The Lugogo win lifted KCCA to 23 points from 10 matches and opened a three-point gap, again, at the summit, at least temporarily, ahead of Vipers SC’s fixture against BUL.
KCCA made a bright start and went ahead in the fifth minute when the NEC defence failed to deal with Sammy Ssebaduka’s cross, allowing Mayanja to control and fire past goalkeeper Samson Kirya.
NEC responded positively and came close through Joseph Dhata, who shot over from a good position.
The visitors equalised three minutes into the second half when substitute Titus Ssematimba headed in Charles Waibi’s cross.
However, Ssematimba was later sent off after receiving a second booking, before KCCA were also reduced to 10 men when Emmanuel Anyama saw red for a stamp on Ibrahim Musa.
The decisive moment came late on when Alex Yiga dispossessed Ibrahim Juma and teed up Mayanja, who side-footed home off the post two minutes from time to secure KCCA’s fourth straight league win.
At the Butema Ground, Patrick Kaddu struck twice to earn Kitara a 2–0 win over Maroons.
The forward headed in Edward Namaasa’s cross in the opening minute before finishing low from Frank Tumwesigye Zaga’s through ball to take his season tally to six and move Kitara up to third on 19 points.
