The StarTimes Uganda Premier League champions announced on July 21 that Miya had returned to the club he left a decade ago, describing the move as the homecoming of “a player whose name remains etched among the greatest ever to wear the famous Red & Black.”
Miya, who will wear the iconic No. 10 shirt, was part of the travelling contingent as the Venoms departed for Rwanda to represent Uganda in the regional championship.
The team has settled into camp at Highlands Suites Hotel in Kigali ahead of its opening Group B fixture against Djibouti’s Garde Republicaine on Friday, July 24, at Amahoro Stadium.
Miya first rose to prominence at Vipers, scoring 20 goals in nearly 50 appearances before earning a move to Belgian football in 2016.
He went on to spend a decade playing professionally in Europe, featuring in several leagues, most recently with Greek second-tier side Ilioupoli.
At international level, he has earned 79 caps and scored 23 goals for the Uganda Cranes.
His return to Vipers is widely viewed as an opportunity to relaunch his career and strengthen his case for a place in the national team ahead of the 2027 AFCON, which will be co-hosted by Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania.
Miya’s arrival further strengthens a Vipers squad under new head coach Denis Lavagne.
The Venoms have undergone an intensive build-up at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, with a strong emphasis on attacking football as they prepare for both domestic and continental assignments.
