The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has named SC Villa coach Morley Byekwaso and Vipers’ Fred Muhumuza as the coaches to manage Uganda Cranes at CHAN 2024.

The announcement was made on Wednesday with the coaches handed the responsibility ahead of the tournament that kicks off on August 2 in East Africa.

“Uganda National Team FUFA is pleased to announce the appointment of the following coaching panel for the Uganda National Team participating in the CHAN 2024 tournament, scheduled to take place in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania from August 2nd to August 30th, 2025, under the Pamoja East Africa hosting arrangement.

“The coaching panel comprises Fred Muhumuza and Morley Byekwaso. Both coaches will be supervised and monitored by Uganda Cranes Head Coach Paul Put throughout the team’s participation in the tournament.”

The FA also confirmed that other members of the technical team will be named in the due course with squad announcement imminent in the near future.

“Further technical personnel will be announced in due course, following the naming of the squad.”

It will be another opportunity for the two to work together again on the national team after they handled a friendly against Mali and Zambia after the sacking of Micho in October 2023.

Uganda Cranes will be making their seventh appearance at the CHAN finals. They have played at the tournament in the 2011, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2020 and 2022 editions.

Uganda who were drawn in Group C alongside Algeria, South Africa, Guinea and Niger.
