Vipers SC 5-1 UPDF
Vipers SC swept aside UPDF with a ruthless 5–1 victory at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Tuesday evening, tightening their chase on early league pace-setters KCCA and SC Villa.
The Venoms fifth win in six matches moved them a place to third and a point within second-placed KCCA and leaders Villa, who top the StarTimes Uganda Premier League standings on 17 points. UPDF are third from bottom on six points.
The champions, unbeaten this season, delivered a dominant response to Saturday’s draw with Villa, with forward Gusto Mulongo starring in a commanding team performance.
Milton Karisa opened the floodgates on 33 minutes, sweeping home after good link-up play with Gusto.
The Congolese attacker then took full control of proceedings, doubling the lead four minutes later after a neat Allan Okello assist.
Gusto added his second in first-half added time, helping home a ball from Arafat Usama to send the Venoms into the break with a 3–1 cushion.
UPDF had briefly threatened a lifeline when experienced striker Samuel Ssekamatte curled in a free kick at 45+1, but Vipers’ superiority was never in doubt.
Denis Walusimbi created the fourth, delivering a measured pass for Robin Kane to score on 56 minutes, before Moses Waiswa, who replaced Okello on the hour, wrapped up the scoring with a composed finish in the 75th minute from Ashraf Mandela’s assist.
Action continues on Wednesday with Police welcoming Buhimba to Kira Road Ground and Entebbe UPPC visiting Mbarara City.
