NEC claimed derby honours at MTN–Omondi Stadium, Lugogo with a 3–1 victory over KCCA on Friday.

Debutant Richard Basangwa scored twice to inspire the hosts, while Joseph Sseremba added the third goal.

The NEC striker opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, finishing off another new signing Pius Obuya’s pass inside the area.

KCCA responded in the 49th minute when Ivan Ahimbisibwe finished off Umar Lutaro’s move.

NEC regained the lead in the 71st minute through Sseremba, who made th  most of Kagawa Ssenoga’s delivery.

Basangwa then sealed the result in the 74th minute, completing his brace with a composed finish after being played through by Warren Buule.

The result lifted NEC to seventh place on 23 points after 16 matches.

KCCA remain fifth on 30 points, seven behind leaders Vipers SC, as the second round got underway.

In Njeru, Vipers SC were held to a 1–1 draw by BUL at the FUFA Technical Center.

Karim Watambala broke the deadlock in the 31st minute with an overhead kick after BUL struggled to clear a long throw into the area.

BUL levelled two minutes into the second half when Karim Ndugwa headed home Dennis Ssewagudde’s corner in the 47th minute.

Vipers stay top on 37 points, while BUL are eighth on 20 points after 16 games. 

Elsewhere, UPDF and Buhimba United shared the spoils in a goalless draw at Bombo Military Grounds.
