StarTimes Uganda Premier League – Matchday 26
Wednesday, May 30, 2025 – Results
Kitara 0-0 Wakiso Giants
Soltilo Bright Stars 0-1 Express
Mbale Heroes 0-1 Maroons
Mbarara City 1-2 NEC
URA 1-1 SC Villa
NEC moved back to within five points of StarTimes Uganda Premier League leaders Vipers SC after a dramatic 2-1 victory over Mbarara City at Kakyeka Stadium on Wednesday.
It took a Jacob Okao injury-time winner for coach Hussein Mbalangu’s men to claim all three points and keep their title ambitions alive with just four matches remaining.
Allan Mugalu had fired the visitors ahead in the 53rd minute, reacting quickest to Ibrahim Musa’s header to break the deadlock.
Dramatic finish
Mbarara hit back six minutes from time through talisman Seiri Arigumaho, who latched onto Wycliffe Ahumuza’s through ball to slip the ball under the onrushing Hannington Ssebwalunyo in NEC’s goal.
Just as it seemed the points would be shared, NEC defender Okao found space in the box in the second minute of added time to snatch all three points and keep the title race alive.
Mbarara’s 13th defeat of the season deepened their relegation worries, leaving them just three points ahead of Wakiso Giants, who occupy the final relegation spot.
Relegation skirmish
Earlier, Wakiso Giants held Kitara to a goalless draw, a result that kept them third from bottom on 20 points.
That sets up a high-stakes showdown next week when Mbarara City and Wakiso Giants face off in what could be a season-defining clash for both.
Mbale Heroes relegated
