NEC maintained pace behind StarTimes Uganda Premier League leaders, Vipers SC, by beating Mbarara City 1-0 at Philip Omondi Stadium, Lugogo on Saturday.

NEC’s ninth win in 14 matches moved them to within a point of Vipers , the latter having beaten UPDF by a goal to nil the previous day.
The Lugogo side now have 30 points, while Mbarara, who have lost six and won just three of their 14 matches, lie 12th on 14 marks.
Mucureezi’s winner arrived on 83 minutes after Joseph Akandwanaho had clipped Allan Mugalu in the box for the former to convert from the spot.
Elsewhere, reigning champions, SC Villa, ended their four-match winless streak by edging URA 1-0 at the Luzira Prisons Ground.
Francis Onekalit, who started in place of missing Charles Lwanga, scored the only goal of the match on 62 minutes.
Villa’s only fifth win in 14 games moves them three places up to seventh on 20 points, one fewer and a place below URA.
SC Villa temporarily moved their home ground from Wankulukuku to Luzira due to the ongoing renovations at the latter ahead of Chan 2024.
