NEC and UPPC maintained their perfect starts to the StarTimes Uganda Premier League season with victories over Lugazi and UPDF respectively as match-day two got underway on Tuesday.

NEC moved to the early top of the table after following their opening 2-0 win over KCCA with a 3-1 victory against Lugazi at the Phillip Omondi Stadium in Lugogo on Tuesday.

After a goalless first half, Richard Basangwa opened the scoring for NEC in the 52nd minute, finishing a rebound following a run by James Jarieko. It was Basangwa’s second goal in as many matches.

Innocent Media doubled the advantage four minutes later when a mistake by goalkeeper Tony Kyamera allowed him to score into an empty net.

Media completed his brace in the 80th minute, racing onto an Emmanuel Kulanga through ball before firing past Kyamera at his near post.

Lugazi pulled one back late through Richard Ayiko, who headed in Frank Mulimi’s corner at the near post, but NEC held on for maximum points.

At Nakivubo Stadium, UPPC also recorded a second successive victory, coming from behind to beat 10-man UPDF 2-1.

Derrick Tarewa put UPDF ahead in the 25th minute before Thomas Ochungo levelled four minutes before half-time.

Substitute Ambrose Kigozi then completed the comeback in the 71st minute, converting from the penalty spot after he was fouled to hand Abdallah Mubiru’s side all three points.

UPDF’s day got worse when Swaibu Kasujja was red carded with a quarter of the game to play for yet another foul on Kigozi.
