Overview:

The Ugandan midfielder’s three-year move to AS FAR Rabat is the latest step in a career that has taken him from Kibuli and KCCA through North Africa, Vipers and Young Africans.

Allan Okello’s recent transfer to the Moroccan giants represents another significant step in a career that has steadily taken the Uganda Cranes midfielder to bigger stages.

The 26-year-old completed his transfer from Tanzanian champions Young Africans last week, signing a three-year contract with the Moroccan side.

It is the latest chapter in a journey that began in Lira before Okello rose through the ranks at Kibuli Secondary School and emerged at KCCA in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League as one of the country’s most exciting young talents.

After leaving KCCA in 2020, Okello spent time in North Africa with Algeria’s Paradou AC before returning to Uganda, where he rejoined KCCA on loan and later established himself at Vipers.

His spell at Vipers brought another league and cup double and helped restore the attacking midfielder to the centre of Uganda’s football conversation.

That revival earned him a move to Young Africans in January, where he took his game another level higher.

Okello scored 14 goals and provided nine assists as Yanga retained the Tanzanian Premier League title, while also helping the club compete at the highest level of African club football.

FAR Rabat were watching. The Moroccan giants reached last season’s CAF Champions League final, and will give Okello another opportunity to test himself against the continent’s elite.

The move also reunites him with Portuguese coach Pedro Gonçalves, who signed him at Yanga before later taking charge at FAR.

For a player whose career has already crossed Uganda, Algeria and Tanzania, Morocco offers yet another exciting platform.

And if Okello’s recent trajectory is anything to go by, it may not be the last.
