Allan Okello struck the decisive goal as Vipers SC edged KCCA 1-0 in a tightly contested StarTimes Uganda Premier League encounter at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, on Friday night.
The playmaker, formerly of KCCA, netted the winner in the 32nd minute after pouncing on a loose ball spilled by goalkeeper Charles Lukwago from a low cross by Yunus Sentamu.
The result handed the defending champions their second straight victory, lifting them three places up to 10th on six points, with four games still in hand.
For KCCA, it was a first defeat in six outings, though they remained top of the table on 11 points.
Marvin Youngman and Enoch Ssebagala were booked for the hosts, while Joel Sserunjogi saw yellow for KCCA. Okello’s decisive contribution earned him the Man of the Match award.
UPPC hit four in Yumbe
At Midigo, Entebbe UPPC registered a 4-2 victory over Calvary in a six-goal thriller to spoil the hosts’ first-ever home appearance in the topflight.
Samuel Kawawa opened the scoring in the 37th minute for the visitors before Hassan Ssenyonjo doubled the advantage shortly after halftime.
Calvary pulled one back through John Rogers, assisted by Lawrence Olaboro, but UPPC restored their cushion via Ambrose Kigozi and Muhammad Kyeyune in quick succession.
Olaboro later converted from the penalty spot for Calvary’s second, but it proved a mere consolation.
The result saw UPPC climb five places to fourth on 10 points, while winless Calvary stayed rooted to the bottom with a single point from five matches. Ssenyonjo was named Man of the Match.
Matchday Six concludes on Saturday with Lugazi hosting Buhimba and BUL travelling to NEC.
