NEC 1-0 UPDF

NEC continued their perfect start to the 2024/25 StarTimes Uganda Premier League season as they claimed their third straight victory on Tuesday.

The table leaders edged UPDF 1-0 at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo to open a five point lead at the summit as Matchday Three got underway.

Forward Rashid Okocha scored the game’s only goal four minutes from full time for the hosts to move to nine points from three games.

KCCA, Wakiso Giants and UPDF are on four points each although the latter have played a match more.

A desperate UPDF clearance at Lugogo was redirected into Okocha’s path inside the penalty area, the attacker taking a few touches forward before unleashing a powerful shot into the top left corner of Yusuf Waswa’s goal for the winner on 86 minutes.

NEC started their campaign with a comprehensive 3-1 victory over giants Vipers SC, following it with a big 2-1 away win over Kitara before Tuesday’s third straight maximum points.

This was also UPDF’s first defeat in three matches and leaves the soldiers fourth on as many points.

Elsewhere, Bunjo Noordin scored eight minutes from full time to earn Soltilo Bright Stars a point after Isaac Ogwang had given Police a 35th minute lead. It ended one-all at Kavumba Recreation Ground.

Police are ninth on three points while Bright Stars are four places and one mark below. Matchday Three continues on Thursday.
