Police went second in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League standings following a 2–0 victory over Calvary at Kiira Road on Wednesday.

After a closely contested opening hour, Obedi Brian James broke the deadlock in the 74th minute, finishing off an assist by Richard Matovu.

Substitute Umar Kasumba sealed the result late on, scoring in the 89th minute after being set up by Saidi Kyeyune.

The win lifted Police three places to second on the table on 27 points, level with KCCA and leaders Vipers SC.

At Luzira Prison Grounds, KCCA missed the chance to hit the summit after being held to a goalless draw by Maroons.

Both sides played with high intensity and attacking intent, but defences remained solid throughout the contest.

Maroons goalkeeper Hassan Matovu produced a commanding performance to keep KCCA at bay and was named Man of the Match.

The draw saw KCCA slip to third place. Police and KCCA have played two more matches than Vipers despite the three all having 27 points apiece.

Meanwhile at Bombo, Entebbe UPPC pockec a narrow 1–0 win over UPDF.

Ambrose Kigozi scored the decisive goal in first-half stoppage time, finding the net in the 45+2 minute.

UPPC defended resolutely after the break to protect their advantage and secure all three points.

The victory has UPPC in fifth place on 26 points, just one behind the leading trio. Kigozi was named Man of the Match.

Action continues on Friday and Saturday, with Vipers SC away to URA on Saturday in a fixture that could have a significant impact on the title race.
