Kitara 0-1 Police

Express 2-1 NEC

Express returned to winning ways on Thursday, beating hitherto unbeaten NEC 2-1 in a StarTimes Uganda Premier League match played at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo.

NEC’s perfect winning run was ended on the same day Police subjected Kitara to a third straight defeat.

Geoffrey Gagganga and Ronald Mawa Andabati scored for coach Baker Mbowa’s Express inside the opening 10 minutes before Cromwell Rwothomio got NEC’s consolation after the break.

Express’ second win in four matches moved them up to fifth on seven points, three behind leaders KCCA, while NEC – with 100% winning record until Thursday – remained second on nine points.

NEC started the more adventurous of the two sides but it is Express that took the lead against the run of play in the fifth minute when Gagganga curled home from 20 yards a poorly cleared ball past goalkeeper Hannington Sebwalunyo.

The Red Eagles doubled their advantage through Andabati’s close range finish on 17 minutes after impressive craft from Richard Basangwa on the right.

Rwothomio reduced the deficit for NEC with a left footed effort inside the goal area on 62 minutes but Express held on for all three points.

Kitara detained

Elsewhere, Kitara’s shocking start to the season continued as they suffered their third straight defeat – this time falling 1-0  to Police at Royal Park Butema.

Augustine Kacancu scored the winner in the 28th minute to hand Police their first win of the season.

Kacancu reacted quickest to slot home after goalkeeper Jamil Kiyimba had failed to deal with Isaac Ogwang’s free kick on the edge of the penalty box.

Police, who remain unbeaten in four matches, move to seventh on six points, while Kitara drop to 11th on three points,
