NEC 2-2 Police

Police battled from two goals down to earn a vital away point against NEC in a thrilling StarTimes Uganda Premier League encounter at the MTN Omondi Stadium on Saturday.

Mustafa Kizza opened the scoring for NEC as early as the third minute, calmly sending goalkeeper Mathias Muwanga the wrong way from the penalty spot after Saidi Kyeyune fouled Joseph Dhata inside the area.

Man of the Match, Dhata, then doubled the hosts’ advantage on the hour mark, finishing off a fine delivery from Charles Waibi to seemingly set NEC on course for their first win of the season.

But Police refused to surrender. Substitute Charles Bbaale halved the deficit in the 85th minute with a superbly taken freekick before Umaru Kasumba held his nerve deep into stoppage time to convert from the spot after Emmanuel Mugume was brought down in the box.

The result lifts Police to fourth on the 16-team log with five points from three matches, four adrift of early leaders Buhimba United Saints. NEC, meanwhile, climb one place to 11th with two points from as many outings.

Matchday Four gets underway on Wednesday, with Lugazi hosting URA while Maroons visit Calvary.
