Vipers SC 2-0 Mbarara City

Buhimba United Saints 1-0 Maroons

The StarTimes Uganda Premier League returned with a bang on Tuesday, delivering shocks, statement wins, and a long-awaited victory.

Police stunned hitherto table leaders KCCA 2-0 at Kiira Road, while Vipers SC capitalised against Mbarara City to climb to the summit.

Buhimba United Saints ended an eight-match winless streak, edging Maroons 1-0 to move a massive seven places up the table.

At Kiira Road, Police produced a tactical masterclass against KCCA. Obedi Brian James connected home Dennis Kalanzi’s assist in the 51st minute before Ikamba Bedia doubled the lead in the 64th.

Kalanzi’s industrious performance earned him Man of the Match honours as the home side held firm to end KCCA’s five-match winning streak.

KCCA struggled to impose themselves, and now sit second with 26 points, a point behind Vipers.

Vipers SC ensured there would be no slip-up in the title chase, defeating relegation-threatened Mbarara City 2–0 at Kitende for their third successive victory.

Just back from Afcon international duty, Allan Okello opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 40th minute after a foul on Milton Karisa.

Abdulkarim Watambala doubled the lead in the 51st minute as the midfielder’s overall performance earned him Man of the Match accolade.

The Venoms eighth win in 11 matches sent them top of the table on 27 points, having played a game fewer than both KCCA and Police.

Earlier in the day, Buhimba United Saints snapped a long drought, edging Maroons 1-0 thanks to Derrick Byabachwezi’s 51st-minute strike.

The newcomers showed resilience to protect the lead, lifting themselves to eighth on 13 points, while Maroons remained seventh on 15 points.

At the other end of the table, Mbarara City’s sixth defeat leaves them third from bottom with 10 points, while Lugazi are just below them on the same points with a game in hand.

The league continues on Wednesday with Calvary welcoming BUL, Kitara travelling to UPDF, and NEC welcoming Lugazi.
