Police dealt SC Villa a setback in the title race with a hard-fought 1–0 victory at the Kira Road Police Arena in Kamwokya on Tuesday.
Lawrence Tezikya scored the decisive goal as early as the seventh minute, finishing off Ibrahim Abubaker Ssengoba’s assist to give the hosts the advantage.
Villa searched for a response but struggled to break down a disciplined Police defence.
The visitors thought they had equalised through Frank Ssebuufu in the first half, only for the effort to be ruled out for offside.
Police held firm after the break to secure all three points, with Tezikya’s early strike proving enough to separate the sides.
The result lifted Police to sixth place on 35 points from 20 matches, while fourth-placed Villa remained fourth on 38 points, missing an opportunity to keep pace with the leading pack.
In Kamwenge, Kitara returned to winning ways with a 1–0 victory over Mbarara City in the Western derby at Rwamwanja Stadium.
Edson Agondeze struck the only goal of the contest in the ninth minute as the Royals bounced back from their recent draw with UPDF.
The visitors managed the game effectively thereafter to claim maximum points and move to 43 points, just one behind leaders Vipers.
Mbarara City, meanwhile, remained 13th on 15 points as they continue their fight against relegation.
At Royal Park in Butema, BUL snatched a late 1–0 win against Buhimba United Saints. Karim Ndugwa headed home from Richard Okello’s delivery in the 90th minute to seal the victory for the Eastern Giants.
The win lifted BUL to eighth place with 29 points, while Buhimba United Saints stayed 14th on 15 points.
Maroons also secured a narrow 1–0 victory away from home, defeating bottom-placed Calvary at Midigo Primary School Ground in Yumbe.
Ivan Asaba scored the decisive goal in the 28th minute as the visitors collected three valuable points.
The result has Maroons up to ninth with 25 points, while Calvary remained rooted to the bottom of the table with five.
In the day’s other fixture, NEC and Entebbe UPPC shared the spoils in a goalless draw at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.
Despite several attempts from both sides, neither team could find a breakthrough as Entebbe UPPC stayed fifth with 36 points and NEC remained seventh on 31.
Action continues on Wednesday with champions Vipers away to UPDF in one of three matches scheduled for the day.
