KCCA 5-0 Soltilo Bright Stars

Bright Anukani put up a Man of the Match performance as a ruthless KCCA fired four past Soltilo Bright Stars in the first half before adding a late fifth to seal a 5-0 rout at the MTN Omondi Stadium on Friday.

The midfield star struck twice, netting KCCA’s first and fourth goals, while Usama Arafat, Saidi Mayanja, and Brazilian Joao Gabriel added their names to the scoresheet.

The emphatic win saw the Lugogo side reclaim third place in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League, having briefly dropped to fourth after Kitara’s victory the previous day.

KCCA climbed to 34 points but still trail leaders Vipers SC by a hefty 15, with the latter having a game in hand.

Meanwhile, Bright Stars remain deep in relegation trouble, second from bottom on just 12 points with only seven matches left to salvage their season.

KCCA took the lead in the 18th minute, with Yian Gatbel setting up Anukani to finish clinically. The hosts doubled their advantage just after the half-hour mark when Shafik Kwikiriza teed up Arafat to score.

Mayanja made it 3-0 in the 35th minute, making the most of Arafat’s assist, before Anukani completed his brace six minutes before the break with a stunning free-kick – capping a ruthless first-half display from Abdallah Mubiru’s side.

Bright Stars showed resilience in a much-improved second half, holding KCCA until the end of regulation time.

However, a lapse in concentration and brilliant work from Etienne Katenga allowed Gabriel to seal the 5-0 rout in the second minute of added time.

At Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium, Samuel Ssekamate made the most of Frank Mugisha’s assist, scoring the winner for UPDF in a 1-0 victory over Wakiso Giants.

The result pushes UPDF up to 10th on 27 points, while relegation-threatened Wakiso stay third from bottom on 14.

The league continues on Saturday, with leaders Vipers SC visiting SC Villa in the headline fixture of a three-match day.
